Castletroy Link Road

The Castletroy Link Road is a project being delivered by Limerick City & County Council. It is being funded by the National Transport Authority.

  • Castletroy Link Road

The proposed works would see the construction of a new distributor road in Castletroy. This would link the Golf Links Road from Schoolhouse Road junction with the Groody Road at southern leg of Kilbane Roundabout.

The strategically important project would help expand the overall network of the East side of the city, while opening up landlocked zoned lands for development in the rapidly growing suburban district centre.

The proposals, in line with the Castletroy Local Area Plan and the Limerick Development Plan 2022-2028, are intended to:

  • Encourage the development of safe and efficient movement and accessibility that will cater for the needs of all users
  • Encourage sustainable transport provision
  • Encourage accident reduction
  • Ensure that adequate facilities and access provisions are provided for those with disabilities in the community
  • Encourage walking and cycling as more convenient, popular and safe methods of movement in Castletroy
  • Facilitate the provision of an attractive and coherent network of off-road footpaths and cycle facilities

The proposed road from Kilbane Roundabout to Schoolhouse Road, a distance of approximately 650m in length, will be a distributor road with cross-section, typically consisting of 9.45m wide carriageway. This carriageway is proposed to be made up of:

  • A 3.25m wide bus lane
  • 2x 2.1m wide footpaths
  • 2x 2m wide segregated cycleways
  • 2x 1.5m wide planted verges with 1 in 2 road embankment side slopes

It is anticipated that the project will begin the statutory planning process at a later date.

As the Scheme progresses, this page will be updated with the latest available information relating to the works.
