Murroe village and the surrounding area has walking routes to suit all abilities, from a leisurely stroll around the front and back avenues of Glenstal Abbey grounds, to the Slieve Felim Way in the heart of the rural countryside.
At Glenstal Abbey, the lands have a wide variety of specimen trees and flowers and is a wildlife sanctuary. Part of the remains of Ireland’s primitive oak forest lies along the edge of the front avenue.
Glenstal Woods Loop Walk gives fine views into North County Limerick, South Tipperary and Keeper Hill to the north. Near the end the loop descends into natural woodland where in summer, the rhododendron is spectacular and forms a soothing finale.
Murroe Nature Loop (2km) is set in a picturesque red sandstone gorge, heavily wooded, with the river running through a series of waterfalls and rapids which provide breathtaking scenery.
Clare Glens Loop Walk (4km) forest park has beautiful nature trails which are well signposted and incorporate lots of the other attractions, such as the natural rock pools, rapids and waterfalls, and an abundance of natural flora and indigenous birds and other wildlife.
The Slieve Felim Way (36km) has much to offer the walking enthusiast. Stretching from Murroe in County Limerick to Silvermines village in County Tipperary, the Slieve Felim Way takes you into the heart of beautiful, rural countryside.
