Michael Noonan, the Minister of Finance, today (Monday 11th January 2016) officially opened Uber’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Thomas Street, Limerick.
The Centre will become a major hub of Uber’s support organisation across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, driving innovation and service excellence for the community of users in the region.
This is Uber’s first Centre of Excellence outside of the United States and will support millions of riders and tens of thousands of partner-drivers in more than 30 cities in 10 countries.
The company has invested over €4m in the city so far as it aims to make Limerick one of its growing network of customer service hubs across the world. The investment is supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland.
Uber signed a ten year lease on a site on Thomas Street, which underwent a major redesign and refit. Today, the Centre of Excellence will officially open with 100 employees, who have been recruited since August. The centre will house more than 300 full-time staff when fully operational.
The Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Liam Galvin congratulated Uber on the opening of its first Centre Of Excellence (COE) outside of the United States at Thomas Street in Limerick City.
"The opening of this Centre is a good example of the significant investment taking place in the heart of the city," said Mayor Galvin, who added, "A thriving Limerick City is central to the fortunes and future development of the County and indeed, the wider Mid West Region."
Conn Murray, Chief Executive, Limerick City and County Council commented: "Limerick City and County Council is committed to working closely with Uber to help the company consolidate and grow its operation here. We know that every job created and every euro invested in the city represents another building block in the process of cementing Limerick's position as a thriving, modern, attractive city."

Jan O’Sullivan, Minister for Education, said: “Uber has hit the ground running in Limerick and the opening of this Centre of Excellence in the heart of Limerick City is another sign of the €4m investment the company is making in our city and its workforce. Already approximately 100 high-skilled jobs have been filled at Uber and this will reach 300 when the Centre of Excellence is fully operational."
