Limerick City and County Council (LCCC) is delighted to announce that it has secured the prestigious I.S. ISO 45001:2018 certification for health and safety. This internationally recognised standard sets the benchmark for workplace safety, health, and welfare, developed by leading national and international standards committees.

The ISO 45001 standard provides a comprehensive framework to manage health and safety and continual improvement of health and safety performance.

The standard has a strong emphasis on leadership, requiring senior management to actively demonstrate commitment to safety, health and welfare in the workplace. A key principle is the participation and consultation of workers to ensure that the safety management system encompasses all aspects of work and is communicated effectively to everyone involved.

In achieving this standard Limerick City and County Council demonstrates not only compliance with health and safety legislation but also its commitment to the safety, health and welfare of its staff. This certification is the result of a substantial programme of work involving all departments, to bring the Council’s safety management system to the required standard.

Mayor of Limerick, John Moran welcomed the accreditation, saying:

"I commend the dedication and hard work of all involved in securing the ISO 45001 certification for Limerick City and County Council. This aligns with our broader goals outlined in the ‘More for Limerick Programme 2024-2029’. There we emphasise the importance of preventative health measures and fostering a culture of safety and well-being in all aspects of our community. We will continue to uphold these high standards in the future."

Director General of Limerick City and County Council, Dr. Pat Daly, said:

“Achieving the ISO 45001 standard is the culmination of many years of work by the staff of Limerick City and County Council and is a reflection of the organisations ongoing commitment to health and safety. I would like to thank all of the staff involved for their ongoing efforts to promote health and safety within the organisation.”

John Cooney, Health and Safety Officer at Limerick City and County Council stated:

"Achieving this certification would not have been possible without the cooperation and enthusiasm of all our colleagues. I am grateful for the support given to the health and safety department throughout this process and look forward to continued collaboration in maintaining our high standards."

Limerick City and County Council remains committed to fostering a culture of safety and well-being.
