Springfield Castle

The Castle has 8 bedrooms,5 doubles(4 en-suite) with a twin room that can also be set up as a double if preferred,and 2 single rooms.There are 6 bathrooms in all, one with a large sauna.The drawing room, dining room and study are beautifully furnished with antiques, both elegant and comfortable.

The study has high speed internet with WiFi. The kitchen is well equipped with large 4 oven AGA cooker, electric stove,  microwave, coffee maker etc., it has a large kitchen table and is a popular family room. There is a separate scullery with washing machine,dryer and dishwasher. In the pantry is a large fridge freezer with icemaker and two other fridges. The courtyard has a gazebo, childrens' play area and barbeque, and the extensive lawns at the side of the castle are ideal for games. 

We have renovated the East wing in the courtyard and can now accommodate an additional 9 people in 5 bedrooms with en suite bathrooms. The "wing" has its own magnificent kitchen, dining room and vast living area there is also a " party room" in the basement.

A sustainable wood boiler heats all at no extra charge, but don't worry,you won't have to load the wood! There is a games room with full sized snooker and pool table, table tennis etc. There is a tennis court and racquets and balls are supplied. Guests at Springfield will enjoy the pleasures of living on an organic farm with deer roaming in the fields. There is a large walled garden which produces organic salads, herbs and flowers for local restaurants. The woodlands are a haven for wildlife and birds. Guests can enjoy walks through this peaceful place.

The castle dates back to the arrival of the Fitzgeralds, Normans who quickly married into the Irish clans and became as the saying goes " more Irish than the Irish themselves" they took to the gaelic customs and language. They built the original castle here in 1280. The family history can be traced through the Fitsmaurice cousins to the Deane family who were awarded the title of Baron Muskerry in 1781.The Deane family are still here today with Betty and her husband Jonathan as your hosts. If time allows, Betty will give residents a tour of the Tower House and try to explain the layers of history.

While the castle is secluded it is ideally suited for touring some of the best tourist trails in Ireland with day trips to The Cliffs of Moher, Dingle Peninsula, The Kilarney lakes and the Ring of Kerry.The cities of Cork and Limerick are just one hour drives and Waterford is 2 and a half hours. Golf enthusiasts will enjoy playing Ballybunnion,he Old Head at Kinsale, and Adare Manor, while there are also plenty of local courses who welcome guests. Clay pigeon shooting, Fishing and horse riding are popular here too and Jonathan and Betty will be happy to help to guide you
