Arthritis Ireland Limerick Branch was established in 1971. At that time there was no Rheumatologist in the mid-west region, even though a survey conducted by the group found that 1 in 6 people had some form of arthritis. In 2003 Dr El Rafie was appointed as temporary Rheumatologist and finally in August 2006 Dr Fraser was appointed as a permanent Consultant Rheumatologist to Limerick Regional and Croom Hospitals. Arthritis Ireland Limerick Branch is still working today to promote the development of care for all arthritis sufferers in the mid-west region.
