The HSE Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) is a specialist service for people under the age of 18 with mental health difficulties. These are difficulties that affect your thoughts, feelings and behaviours every day.
The service includes provision of emergency services 24/7. A clinical team is on call to deal with emergency cases Monday-Friday 9.30am-5pm, and there is a consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist on call rota at all times.
CAMHS in the Mid West HSE area run a duty system daily to deal with emergency referrals for children with acute mental health difficulties. If your child is suicidal or self harming discuss with your GP who will send a referral letter to us, then the emergency team will be able to speak with you over the phone and may offer an appointment that day if needed.
Please note: Emergency Referrals can be made to Mid West CAMHS by any of the following professionals: GPs, Area Medical Officers, Paediatricians or Accident & Emergency Department Doctors. If your doctor is faxing an emergency referral to CAMHS please ensure the doctor has your up-to-date phone number so we can make immediate contact with you if needed.
If you have serious concerns about your child contact your G.P. If in the evening or at the weekends, you will need to contact your G.P., Shannondoc or A&E.
