Connecting with young people and supporting them to reach their full potential. Limerick Youth Service engages with over 4,500 young people annually in providing a diverse range of youth work, education, training, employability and volunteering opportunities.

LYS supports a number of diverse youth work projects including Comhairle na nÓg, Garda Youth Diversion, Youth Cafés, Youth & Family Support, Be Well: Youth Mental Health Service, a Youth Information Bereau, international youth work and volunteer led youth clubs across Limerick city and county.

Education & training remain key features of the organisation with a variety of course including an Ability Programme, Digital Skills, Employability Skills, Early Childhood Care & Skills, Bike Project, Retail Skills, Catering Course, Baking Skills, iScoil initiative and Leaving Cert Applied among the many courses young people can study.

LYS enhances the civic, educational, personal and social development of young people with programmes focusing on a broad range of topics from leaderships skills, animal welfare and web safety to creative arts, music and sport.

LYS offers a number of supports including: 

LGBTQIA+ Youth Group

Two LGBTQIA+ youthwork groups delivered in partnership with GOSHH on Tuesdays (18+ )and Fridays (14-17) at Limerick Youth Service

LYS Ability +

Limerick Youth Service’s Ability+ Project works with young people aged 17-25 with a mild/moderate diagnosis of ASD, mental health illness, mild learning disability or hidden disability.

The project supports and mentors young people into employment while furthering their education/training and connecting them to their community.

LYS Community Training Centre

Limerick Youth Service Community Training Centre (LYS CTC) provides further education and training course to 15 – 20 years olds who have left school early and/or are currently unemployed.

LYS Your Space Your Place, UBU, Projects

The UBU projects at LYS are targeted at young people living in disadvantaged areas, who are socially isolated and in need of opportunities to socialise with their peers through recreational and developmental activities.

Additional, Key issues affecting this target group are poor educational attainment, substance misuse, anti-social behaviour, lack of appropriate youth amenities, and childhood trauma.

Other target groups include young travelers, and those Young people from Migrant and LGBTI communities.

LYS Youth Club Development

Volunteer led Youth Clubs play an essential role in supporting young people in their local communities.

The focus is on voluntary participation and providing a range of youth focused events such as Youth Factor talent shows, Youth discos, and our accredited Youth leadership programmes, Community projects and Day trips in a safe and fun environment.

Local youth clubs reduce isolation, and help to maintain in person friendships and networks which is so important post Covid.

LYS Youth Diversion Project

Limerick Youth Service’s Youth Diversion Project (YDP) works with young people (12-17yrs) who are involved in, or a risk of becoming involved in anti-social behaviour and crime. Our Youth Diversion Project works in partnership with the Irish Youth Justice Service, An Garda Síochána and is part supported by the Irish Government and the European Social Fund.

LYS Youth and Family Support Project

The Youth & Family Support project offers a range of supports, programmes and interventions for young people from social, emotional to educational and employment. The youth worker and young person work together to create a package of supports based on Strengths & Needs assessment.

As part of the Service offering, young people will benefit from an accessible community based service with strong progression pathways and an integrated approach to service delivery. the project is based in thre  locations across the City.

LYS Be Well Youth Mental Health Service

Limerick Youth Service Youth Mental Health Service, is for young people (14 to 25yrs) across Limerick City & County who are in need of support for mental health & well-being.

The staff team have significant expertise in delivering mental health services and supports with objectives of: strengthening the mental, social and emotional well-being of young people; increasing awareness and understanding of positive youth mental health and challenging stigma and supporting the participation of young people in the design and delivery of youth mental health services.

Our main activities include one to one counselling, one to one and group supports, advocacy, the delivery of evidence-based programmes, awareness raising and stigma reduction campaigns.

Youth Information Centre

Limerick Youth Service provides a Youth Information service for all young people and those who work with them.

The Youth Information Centre provides a wide range of confidential advise and supports to young people covers subjects such as: education, careers, employment, health, accommodation, youth work, research, travel, sport, leisure and many more.
