An Online Exhibition Commissioned by Limerick Museum.
Researched and Curated by Dr Zara Power.

This online exhibition complements Limerick Museum’s landmark exhibition Postcards from Limerick which runs in Saint Mary’s Cathedral, Limerick from August to November 2023. 1100 years ago, the Vikings sailed up the Shannon estuary and settled on the island of Inis Sibhton, on the very spot where Saint Mary’s Cathedral stands today. It was from this site that the city of Limerick developed.
Postcards from Limerick celebrates the 1100th anniversary of Limerick city and explores its rich history via the medium of Limerick Museum’s postcard collection, which is probably the largest collection of Limerick related postcards in existence.
This online feature supplements the exhibition in Saint Mary’s Cathedral, Limerick by examining the evolution and history of the postcard itself. This exhibition has been funded by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media under the Regional Museums Exhibition Scheme 2023.
