The Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Programme was developed in partnership with the National Transport Authority (NTA) and Green-Schools in 2020 as a response to the need to support schools to increase walking and cycling to school.
Limerick City & County Council’s Active Travel team is tasked with delivering the infrastructure to provide the Scheme, following successful funding applications from the schools directly to the NTA.

Laurel Hill Colaiste FCJ was selected for inclusion in the first round of the Safe Routes to School programme in 2021.
The infrastructure benefits all three schools on the street: Laurel Hill Colaiste FCJ, Laurel Hill Secondary School & St Clement’s College.
The proposals went through a Section 38 process which closed in February 2024. More details on this process can be viewed here: Section 38 for Proposed Works at Laurel Hill Avenue, South Circular Road (L-10424) | Limerick City & County Council's Online Consultation, Survey and Application Form Portal
The Scheme:

- 14.30-16.00 (Monday-Friday)
