The Castletroy Urban Greenway to National Technology Park Active Travel Scheme is a project being delivered by Limerick City & County Council. It is being funded by the National Transport Authority.
The proposed Limerick City Greenway will link the University of Limerick Boat Club to Annacotty, Co. Limerick. The cycleway will be approx. 6.8km in length and will be located along the southern and western banks of the River Shannon and River Mulkear north of the University of Limerick Campus (UL) and the National Technology Park (NTP).
The Castletroy Urban Greenway to National Technology Park Active Travel Scheme is for a proposed cycle and pedestrian link from the existing Castletroy Urban Greenway to the proposed Limerick City Greenway.
The proposals include the following:
- Continuation of the Castletroy Greenway north of the Gaelscoil carpark, including a crossing on the Gaelscoil access road
- Controlled crossing of the R445 for cyclists and pedestrians
- New cycle path and footpath facility to link with Holland Road within IDA lands.
- Cycle path and footpath upgrades on Holland Road (existing IDA service road which terminates as cul-de-sac). This road currently has a footpath separated by a verge on either side of the road.
- Controlled crossing across Plassey Park Road to link to the Limerick City Greenway.
A non-statutory public consultation period on the proposals began on September 24th, 2024 and ran for a four week period until October 25th, 2024.
