Active Travel Limerick - Bus Shelters

The National Transport Authority allocates annual funding to Limerick City & County Council under the Bus Shelter Enabling Works Programme.

These annual allocations follow funding applications from the Active Travel team.

2024/2025:

For 2024/2025, €900,000 has been allocated to the team to facilitate the development of 31 new bus shelters in Limerick city and county.

Work on assessing exact sites for the shelters in each location is underway within the Active Travel department.

The funding will enable works to take place at agreed locations in the following areas: 

Adare-Rathkeale Municipal District:

  • Loughill
  • Shanagolden
  • Askeaton
  • Reens Pike
  • Rathkeale (The Square)
  • Ballyneety
  • Foynes

Newcastle West Municipal District:

  • Templeglantine
  • Newcastle West
  • Devon Cross (x2)
  • Abbeyfeale (x2)

Cappamore-Kilmallock Municipal District:

  • Knocklong
  • Galbally
  • Murroe
  • Ballylanders
  • Herbertstown
  • Cappamore
  • Doon

Metropolitan Municipal District:

  • Caherdavin Church
  • O’ Connell Avenue
  • New Road, Garryowen
  • Mulcair Road
  • Childers Road
  • Clancy’s Strand
  • Drombanna
  • Ballysimon Road
  • Castleconnell (x2)
  • Dublin Road

2023:

In 2023, €630,000 was allocated to the team to facilitate the development of 19 new bus shelters in Limerick city and county.
