Three of Limerick City and County Council’s (LCCC) cherished green spaces have been honoured with the prestigious Green Flag Award for 2024. This recognition highlights the exceptional management and environmental standards of Adare Town Park, Lough Gur Lakeshore Park and Visitor Centre, and The People’s Park.
Adare Town Park has received its first Green Flag Award, marking a significant milestone for the community. This accolade reflects the dedication and hard work of everyone involved in maintaining and enhancing the park’s natural beauty and facilities.
Lough Gur Lakeshore Park and Visitor Centre, not only secured a Green Flag Award but also achieved the 2024 Green Heritage Site Accreditation. This additional recognition underscores the park’s commitment to preserving its unique landscape and historical significance.
The People’s Park continues to uphold its standard of excellence, maintaining its Green Flag status and providing a vibrant, well-managed space for residents and visitors alike.
Additionally, the community-run Abbeyfeale Biodiversity Park has been awarded a 2024 Green Flag Community Award. This honour celebrates the park’s outstanding community-led efforts in promoting biodiversity and environmental stewardship.
Head of Parks and Senior Executive Engineer at Limerick City and County Council, Carmel Lynch commented:

The 2024 Green Flag Awards were announced today (Friday 08 Nov) by An Taisce Environmental Education. The international Green Flag Award was awarded to 120 parks, gardens, greenways and wildlife sanctuaries around the country.
The award acknowledges excellence in the management of those green spaces which are freely open to the public.
