Cllr Sarah Kiely

I am from Limerick and I represent Limerick City East Electoral Area in the Metropolitan District. I was first elected to Limerick City and County Council in 2019.

Not coming from a political family didn't deter me from entering politics when I first ran in 2014. I wasn't elected which was a blessing, as it wasn't the right time for me. My time came in 2019 when I was elected to Limerick City East and I'm grateful to represent the people of my community. Having the opportunity to deliver for your community is special and hard work pays off.

It is extremely important to have diversity on our Council, better decisions are made when we have balance at the table. Studies have shown that when women are involved in the decision-making process a better and fairer outcome is more likely. We need to address the balance to ensure we increase female participation in politics.

“All politics is local" - this is one of the reasons I got into politics. As councillors we are the closest to the electorate and the closest to the voices in our communities. For me this matters, I was involved in my community for years with youth clubs, sporting organisations, Team Limerick Clean Up and other voluntary groups before ran for election. I am still heavily involved in sporting clubs, women's soccer and supporting voluntary organisations in our communities.
